Rest in Peace Sweet Achilles – Kansas City Dog & Pet Photography

Rewind to 1995 – As a freshman in high school Yearbook class, I met a pretty cool senior and Editor-in-Chief. I was a young, naive newbie to the Yearbook world (and a complete nerd) but I will always remember how kind she was to me. I lived within walking distance of the school and wasn’t old enough to drive yet – so she would give me rides home when it was bitterly cold or snowing – something I will never forget. Fast forward to the world of social networking and I reconnected with her through Facebook in 2009. She became an instant fan of my “pet photography business” that was really just a glimmer in my eye at that time. Her Pit Bull Achilles and other pup Ace were my first real clients……ever! I had absolutely no clue what I was doing and when I look back at those photos, to me, that shows. But she loved the photos and it encouraged me to go forward. She ended up showing her photos to Sandi Outlaw, owner of KC PAWS rescue and that is how I began my venture of photographing adoptable dogs and helping them find homes more quickly through the power of a photograph. Because of Achilles, I began to understand and not stereotype or judge Pit Bulls. I believe part of his purpose in life was to lead me to where I am today. And I am forever thankful for that.

Achilles crossed the rainbow bridge recently and everyone who knew him is left with an empty hole in their hearts. For respect and privacy of the family, the details of his death will not be exposed here. But I ask that you keep them in your prayers and give your pets an extra hug and kiss today. As you never know what may happen in life and even the smallest moments with our pets should be forever cherished.

Tribute to a Best Friend – Author Unknown

Sunlight streams through the window pane onto a spot on the floor…..
then I remember,
it’s where you used to lie, but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet, and muted echoes sound…..
then I remember,
it’s where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road, and up beyond the hill,
then I remember,
it can’t be yours….. your golden voice is still.
But I’ll take that vacant spot of floor and empty muted hall,
and lay them with the absent voice and unused dish along the wall.
I’ll wrap these treasured memories in a blanket of my love,
and keep them for my best friend until we meet above.

These next two postings are a little different.  As I was looking back through these photos (and re-editing because my style has changed so much since I first started), I came across these photos which I really like, but one was extremely blurry and the other had harsh shadows and odd coloring I couldn’t seem to easily fix. So I had an idea to play around in Photoshop and create some interesting art out of these photos.  Makes me think I might want to offer this service to my clients in the future!GO AHEAD,pin this

  • Jennifer - Achilles was a wonderful dog, he did indeed have an effect on all who knew him. I had never known a pittie before Achilles and he was such a sweetie you just forgot he was a pit bull. I know the family will continue to treasure your photos, not only as their hearts heal, but long after.ReplyCancel
