Tis the Season! Festive Crafts and Ideas for Families

I’ve always loved Christmastime and the holiday season, but this year everything seems a little more special. In fact, Christmas exploded around the house a week before Thanksgiving because I was SO excited to put up the tree for our baby girl to enjoy. Here are some fun and festive ideas for parents.

Make a handprint or footprint ornament

I found inexpensive kits at our local TJ Maxx and made these for ourselves and as gifts. It took a little patience since our daughter likes to ball her hands into fists, but it’s well worth the effort and you will have a memory to cherish for a lifetime.

Visit Santa

Pro tip – visit Santa after 5pm during the week! We went to Bass Pro on Sunday and learned there was a 2 hour wait to see the jolly ol fellow.  No one has the patience for that! We tried again last night and got right in – no wait and they were giving away adorable wooden frames (Mon-Thurs only) along with a free photo with Santa.

Create baby-themed ornaments

As you may have gathered, I am a fan of sentimental ornaments. There is nothing better than opening up your stash of ornaments the next year and remembering all of the sweet moments that flew by so fast. This year, I created a hospital bracelet/hat ornament like this one and I also had fun with my baby shower invitations and created something similar to this idea. The possibilities are endless!

Watch a light show

I am a fan of yearly traditions and I always love to visit the Country Club Plaza each year. The Plaza Lights is a 15-block holiday spectacle for the last 87 years.  Additionally, we have a local business who puts on an amazing little light show for free. You can park across the street, tune your radio to a correlating station and you’re instantly in a winter wonderland.

Volunteer

All year long, but especially around the holidays, I strive to give back to the community. There are so many opportunities during this season to help others. Consider making a meal for a family in need, adopting a family or even donate to a charity in lieu of a gift to someone.  For example, a friend of mine shared that her child’s teacher requested any student make a donation to Great Plains SPCA in lieu of gifts they may have brought her. What a neat idea!

I hope everyone has a beautiful holiday season. Cherish your loved ones and give your babies (furry ones too!) a hug and a kiss.
