Behind the Scenes – Indoor Fabric Backdrop for Pets & Newborns

I’ve never been a huge fan of indoor photos. Candid, lifestyle sessions at local parks are my niche and provides the best natural light. I have made exceptions and do take indoor photos occasionally. I usually take indoor photos of my own pets to ensure I master this type of shot before offering it to clients. Since I now offer baby photography, I’ve tried to be resourceful in creating several different indoor studio-style options. While I don’t have a studio or storefont, my home has nice natural light with lots of windows which helps the end result.  You  may have noticed another backdrop/floor set up in this post of Remington announcing he is going to be a big brother.

My latest backdrop option includes a few key pieces – a backdrop stand with clips, 2 yards of soft fabric and a couch cushion. This is still a work in progress and more fabric colors and choices will be available. This probably looks pretty amateur when you see the setup shot, but the final photo hopefully doesn’t reveal those secrets.  This and other backdrop setups can be transported to your home for convenience or you can come to my home if you don’t mind being greeted by my welcome crew {a Schnauzer and Vizsla}. This setup shown below is meant for those up close and personal shots of your {tastefully naked or wrapped} newborn. Since I have 5 more months before my newborn arrives, I enlisted Remington for help. He’s the most patient and helpful model I could ask for. This particular shot probably took 50 takes before I perfected my settings and decided what I liked. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it. He’s rewarded with baby carrots, so I think it’s a decent trade.
